Arabic Calligraphy and Hollywood

This was an e-mail I recently sent to a professor of mine.

I was looking over the opening scene from the English patient where Arabic is being written. The word was being written from left to right. Arabic is written from right to left. Otherwise, they did an OK job in writing the Western style. I always found little problems like this in movies. A long time ago, I saw a movie called the Thirteenth Warrior.  Recently, I was going over the end where he was writing in Arabic. He was writing in a style that was developed a couple of hundred years after the movie took place.
